I don't get it - if Western imperialism and corporate power are such threats to the oppressed, then how can the undeveloped countries close off their markets to Western goods and services? (http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/07/29/business/wto.php)

I do agree with the West on this one - everybody must lower barriers, including the undeveloped countries, because that would be good for those countries in the long run. I would also use trade as a tool to force political and economic reform in those countries.

"The basic principle is for everybody to help the round by helping each other to make difficult but necessary moves," Mandelson said.

Exactly. (He's the EU's trade commissioner.)
