Is this true or not? You go to another site from the window you're in right now...global affairs. You do so by entering an url in the address bar or file/open. Can the site you went to, see where you came from in their logs somewhere???

Yep, if it's from a window with a current page loaded, it will show up in the referrer's logs.

but if you "open in new window?"

If you don't want the site to see where you've come from, open a blank window and paste or type the url into the address bar.

Yep. Or you can type the address into the Google search box/tool bar and then click the link Google gives you. That way the referrer will be Google.

Even if you clicked no link...it's still gonna show up as the refferrer? I'm trying to convey this to someone who's insisting it's not true. Wish I could find it in writing to shove it in their face. LOL

I just tested my site, and it should only show-up in referrer logs if you click a link from a site. If you type it in manually, it won't send referrer data.

Right, referrer log only trips when you click through a link. If you select a favorite from the menu or type it in manually, it won't show up in referrer log.

If you use Mozilla/Firefox you can also disable referer tags from being sent in about:config. network.http.sendRefererHeader set to 0 will disable it. However some sites won't let you download files unless you have it enabled (set to 2) because without them they think you're clicking a deeplink from another site.

You're not the only one. I was about to ask her if she wanted to head on down to 504 or Trestles for some early morning wave catching.

So is Trestles a left or right break? I was watching some video of the swell you guys had in CA a few weeks ago. Great waves.

Yes I know this is OT, sorry, but waves are important.

Ahhh...see...that was different than what we were told in a forum of long ago, eh? I thought what Vi thought too. Hey, live and learn!
But then again, give it some time, I'm sure they will rig it up so they can trace everything, lol.
