Prompted by the recent "Star Trek" threads, I'd thought I'd ask which are your favorite Star Trek novels? I've not read any of them dealing with TNG or beyond, but of the original Trek universe, the one I really enjoyed was The Final Reflection (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0671038532/103-1161591-3753434), by John M. Ford.

In a break with the cartoonish depection of Klingons, this novel provided a detailed and well-developed look into Klingon culture and early Federation history in a way that revealed the basic "humanity" of all of the characters.

This is one of two Trek books I've read more than once, and the only I got more out of upon each re-reading.

The only Trek novel I've read was The Return by William Shatner, which I thought was fairly decent. I'm personally more of a Star Wars novel guy myself though...

Was this the one that was released in the early 80s, following a young Klingon as he rose up in the ranks? The one who met a very young Spock and marvelled at the single pearl of sweat that ran from Spock's hand when they shook?

That's the one. Where they played a board game adapted to real players and weapons.

They also came out with a book of short stories written by the fans. I actually liked some of them.

I like the S.C.E. books, set in TNG time period but not TNG crew other than occasional cameos.

The book Enterprise Logs is interesting. It goes from the time of the American Revolution through TNG, with a short story about various captains of ships named Enterprise.

Additionally the Captains Logs were entertaining.

Can't stand TOS.

Yeah, I do remember that...and after clicking the link in your original post (which I'd overlooked), I saw the cover art and remembered it. I do remember one passage, where Krenn is somehow "safeguarding" a human, and he tells this human that another Klingon will come to his quarters to kill him. The human refuses to fight. After the Klingon whom Krenn warned of actually does show up and Krenn observes him leaving the human's quarters, he enters and finds the human still alive.

"When I said I wouldn't fight," I remember the human saying, "I didn't mean I would allow myself to be easily killed."

As I recall, the human had avoided certain death by hiding under his bed--and the Klingon assassin, who never expected an enemy to hide from him, merely thought he wasn't there and left. :haha:

Hm, let's see...

I've got an entire bookshelf full of Star Trek books, most of them TNG books. A few DS9 and Voyager books, and both IKS Gorkon books. The IKS Gorkon books remain my favorite.
