Gays Care Less About Future

One student of Prof. Hans-Hermann Hoppe is:


"I have given lectures like this for 18 years," said Hoppe, a native of Germany who joined UNLV's faculty in 1986. "I have given this lecture all over the world and never had any complaints about it."

But within days of the lecture, he was notified by school officials that a student had lodged an informal complaint. The student said Hoppe's comments offended him.

A series of formal hearings ensued.

Hoppe said that, at the request of university officials, he clarified in his next class that he was speaking in generalities only and did not mean to offend anyone.

As an example of what he meant, he offered this: Italians tend to eat more spaghetti than Germans, and Germans tend to eat more sauerkraut than Italians. It is not universally true, he said, but it is generally true.

The student then filed a formal complaint, Hoppe said, alleging that Hoppe did not take the complaint seriously.

Titles aside, what do you think of his theory?

On surface, it makes sense, but to me, it seems "too clean".

The fatal flaw with this theory, is it doesn't follow the logic to the end.

The gays statement is a twist on the old Pat, facial hair and male logic. All men have facial hair. Pat has facial hair. Therefore, Pat is a man.

His back-up arguments about the Italians and Germans is completely irrelevant because it does not follow through to a third statement and a (flawed) conclusion. A rough approximation would be, Italians eat more pasta than Germans, who eat more sauerkraut. Pasta is more fattening than sauerkraut. Therefore, Italians are fatter than Germans.

His argument is bunk, even with the defending statements. It reeks and makes my highly logical brain hurt. Make the bad man stop!

I think it an be argued that parents have a bigger investment in the time past their death than non parents. Several of his terms are too general but for the idiot to take offense instead of discussing it is way to much of a victim mentality for me. Did the "victim" discuss it beyond offense? Do we really want such a vanilla society that we squelch all thought not PC? I wonder where this clown thinks gays would be today if we squelched all discusion when gays were making their gains? "I got mine, now all of you shut up!" is not what freedom of speech is all about.
