It was revealed in early January of this year that Mr. Valenis had been a KGB reserve officer as the media disclosed documented evidence suggesting that he had been put on the KGB reserve list in 1981, when he served as an instructor in a local Communist party committee. According to the documents, Mr. Valenis was promoted to KGB Captain a year later.
