Imagine my shock when I discovered this catalogue in one of the bathroom stalls.
Check out the prices and the colors of the shirts. This is what they wear, folks.

David Brooks Cotton Stretch Tee Shirts
Price: $34.00
Uh yeah. I can get the same thing at walmart for 7 dollars in nicer colors. Pima cotton from peru? I guess it matters when you have your leisure tee's dry cleaned....what kind of cotton it's made of? If it was all American made product pima cotton.....I might pay 34 for that t.

Those are pretty hefty prices, but not nearly out of whack as some I've seen. I stopped into the Versace store once and saw t-shirts for $225. Unbelievable!!!

I can't believe those yuppy Lacoste shirts are around again. I was happy when they went out of style.
And for $72 each..they can go away once more. Soon.
I can get a short sleeve polo at Kohl's for $15. Sheesh.

Considering that Polo brand polo shirts retail at $75, I guess it's not that out of whack.
Personally, I love Polo clothes and think they are worth money as you can wash them a million times and they still look brand new. Then again, I also buy them at Marshals or the outlet store so I don't pay anywhere near full retail. :)

They're probably just using that catalog to wipe their butts.

I've one Polo button-down that is 5 years old or so. They do wear well, that's for sure.
I got it at Gurnee Mills for less than $20, if memory serves.
I never pay full price for anything if I can help it lol.

Let me argue in favor of the greedy, status-conscious, capitalistic consumer pigs:
If I could afford it, I'd wear clothing in that price range, too. Sure, anyone can get $7 T-shirts at Wal-mart, for instance. Know what? They look, feel, and wear like they cost.....$7.
We've all heard "caveat emptor". My Latin's non-existent, but the parallel to that would translate as "you get what you pay for". Sure, there's an upper limit, somewhere, where the prices become ludicrous. There really can't be any difference between a $1,000 suit and a $5,000 dollar one. But you can sure as heck tell the difference between a $200 suit and a $1,000 one!
Quality products look better, they feel better, they last longer, they're better made.

Absolutely agree. Call me a metrosexual, or whatever you want, but my entire closet is name-brand clothes. Mostly Polo, Kenneth Cole, and Claiborne for Men. Like I said earlier, I don't pay full price for them, as I get them on sale or at outlet stores, but the quality difference is noticeable in how they fit, how they look & feel, and how long they last.

There you go! Just remember, you wouldn't be able to get them at outlets if there wasn't a retail demand for them ;)

Claiborne for Men.
Ok, guilty on that brand. I just bought 5 Claiborne shirts at Kohl's a couple of weeks ago.
70% off ;)
Also guilty in that I've several pairs of pants for work that are from Land's End. Mainly because if you buy them online, you can get them custom hemmed. Hard to find 30x35 pants in a store :)

Yep, I've very grateful to the people that buy them at full retail! ;)
There was one time that I did buy an outfit at Kenneth Cole on Michigan Ave for full retail. The entire outfit (shirt, pants and belt) was over $250. To this day, I think I probably spent too much money, but the outfit still looks brand new 1.5 years later so it was actually worth it.

Ugh, those pastel colored shirts are foofoo looking and still cost more than the abercrombie crap the preppy kids like to wear...

I was brought up to think that way. I grew up wearing mall clothing from Sears and Macy's, etc. Shoes from mall shoe stores. There are some things where it really matters. For instance bathing suits. When you're trained to spot quality, you'd be surprised how fast you can spot a quality product in the least expensive places. You don't need to spend a lot to look like you did, if you can spot quality ;)
Example...I bought Levi Jeans and then picked up a few of the walmart brand stretch jeans. I got them the same week. The Levi's are ripping around the pockets and the walmart ones not only look better and fit more accurately, but they are holding up much better and look much better. So do I want to go back and spend 35 dollars on the Levi's next time I want jeans when I can get better quality from the walmart brand for 14 dollars?
