Yup. But you won't be able to buy it in the U.S. The <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=101647">Logan Dacia</a> is being marketed in developing nations, such as Turkey.

And it's not a bad looking car, either, certainly beats Yugo or even the first Hyundais.

Yes, but even more entertaining is this pic I found via a link from your article page. Sorry, Nolan you said? What's that again? :P

Wonder when those boffo Iranian autos that Cyrus was touting are going to start saturating the market?

Those were (are) built in FSU. Ever try to own a Russian made car?

There's no manual, no specific tools. You just have to go by with your brain and improvisation.

Good God, please tell me you are not serious. Don't forget the Zaporozhets ("humpbacked" one). ;)

Of course I'm not serious. Ugly, frumpy, 30 years behind the times autos. I knew I was missing one, but there's no way I'm remembering a word like that. Instead, I was thinking "Zil", like the trucks.

Zil and the Urals (the new oooooh ahhhhhhh trucks).

You forgot the Zhiguli (which is almost the same as the Ladas). There was also Chaika (Seagull) for the Commie leaders.

What was that huge black ugly limo the apparatchiki rode around in? I've got the name right on the tip o my tongue.

First the GORGEOUS and very spacey Zhiguli:

Lada is almost the same as the above. Here's a shot from a friggin ad (<a href="http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1410000/images/_1410238_lada300.jpg&imgrefurl=http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/business/newsid_1410000/1410238.stm&h=180&w=300&sz=14&tbnid=iXzuHTS1rv8J:&tbnh=66&tbnw=110&start=3&prev=/images%3Fq%3DLada%2BCar%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG">wow, what a rip off!)</a>

THe ever so behind everyone else, Moskvitch:

<img src="http://www.abc.se/~m9805/eastcars/moskvitch/izh4.jpg">

The ever popular (and the cheapest one in SU times) Zaporozhets (this is the humpbacked version):

<img src="http://www.abc.se/~m9805/eastcars/zaporozhets/skum1.jpg">

And last but not least, the most popular car, the most sought after is the Volga:

Chaika was never offered to the public so I won't bother with a pid. :)

The Chaika looks from the 50's, but something tells me it isn't.

Here's some Soviet trucks. :)

Zil (this is the military shot here but they were used for other aspects of transport:

Something like this: <img src="http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/max_chern/oct21/zil_157.jpg">

Here's the Ural, which was brand spanking new when I was a kid.

Then the Maz, also two versions of this.

Why would that Zil have "Tank Repair Shop" stenciled in English on its side?

Shot is from year 2000. Loads of US and English companies doing business over yonder.
