Mumbai: Unusual events "unheard of in the history of seismology" have been recorded in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, with more than 120 such events being recorded in the last one month, according to seismologists.

The seismology department of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and the Earth Sciences Department of the Indian Institute of Technology here have recorded over 120 such unusual events in the islands following the December 26 earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale that triggered tsunamis which wreaked havoc in several parts of the country.

Is this a sign of things to come? Will we be seeing disasters that will make the Tsunami look mild in comparison? Is this source reliable?

The islands are on a Tectonic Plate called the Indian Plate. If you look at a map of all the plates (http://geology.er.usgs.gov/eastern/plates.html), the Indian Plate is pretty dinky compared to other major plates. Betcha there's some movement down there that's causing things to heat up in the mentioned islands. Wouldn't surprise me to see a volcano in the making with a new island about to be added to the chain, similar to what we see with the Hawaiian Islands.

Just watched a special on "Explorer/Discovery" (I think?) channel last night about killer tsunami's...

It claimed that this volcano in the Canary Islands.....
http://volcano.und.nodak.edu/vwdocs/volc_images/africa/lapalma.html

WILL erupt, rumble, shift, etc.... and cause a massive tsunami that will endanger, if not wipe out the East Coast with an anywhere-estimated 100-600 foot tidal wave within the next 50-100 years.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/horizon/2000/mega_tsunami.shtml

Of course, Googling it finds more crackpot claims than facts, and most of the facts are dismissed by crackpots..

Even still.... After seeing what happened in Asia, and knowing what happened in Alaska in 1964 http://www.drgeorgepc.com/Tsunami1964Canada.html

I'm not taking anything lightly anymore when it comes to Nature's wrath.

It doesn't surprise me that there's a substantial amount of seismic activity. Major earthquakes are usually followed by hundreds of aftershocks. Occasionally, aftershocks can top the original event in terms of magnitude.

I don't know if that source is reliable.

I just want to take a minute and post my thoughts on all this doomsday stuff.
Today, our planet's scientists have more information from hi-tech 'sensors' and 'computer models' than ever before.
And from what I can tell, these scientists haven't come to grips with exactly what to do with all this info.
More than EVER BEFORE they can see what's happening on this planet.

The more they see on their new instruments and computer models, the more they're apt to say, "Yikes, this planet, with all these shifting plates and consequent volcanos & earthquakes, is a pretty unstable place to live".

And, I say, yea..ok..guys, we sort of knew that before. ;)
We sort of knew we shouldn't build anything important only 1 or 2 feet above sea level.
We sort of knew we shouldn't build on the shifting sands of barrier islands.
We sort of knew we shouldn't build in a river's flood plain.
We sort of knew we shouldn't build near where there's a big crack in the earth.
But we do.
I just can't help but think that many of these 'disasters' are of our own making.

So, to relply to the original question.."A sign of things to come?"
Yup, I'm afraid it is, as long as we continue to populate those area of the planet where we should know better.

Just my thoughts.
