God's Politics : Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It
(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060558288/qid=1106835661/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6473547-8916865?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) is the name of a new book by Jim Wallis, editor and founder of Sojourners (http://www.sojo.net/).
I was listening to him on NPR yesterday; it was a repeat from last week and I'm mighty glad I caught the repeat because I was able to listen to the entire show (http://www.whyy.org/rameta/RT/RT20010926_20_2.ram) (RealAudio required).
While there were a couple of things I didn't agree fully upon, I have say that this is the most reasonable, rational, inclusive person I've heard discuss the role of religion in society and politics (not government!). His approach appeals even to athiests and agnostics. I can't begin to summarize in way that will do the man any justice.
Please, if you've got time to listen, do so. You won't be sorry. I know I'll be buying his book this weekend.
