In what can only be described as great news for AIDS patients across the world, the FDA approved a generic AIDS cocktail (http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=442478). This will lower the costs to poor nations and allow them to use the $15 billion in aid money provided by the U.S. to purchase the drugs.
President Bush was widely criticized for including the "FDA approved drug" requirement for use of the aid money. Whether that lead to the speedy FDA approval or not is probably up for debate, but regardless, at least the approval is done which will make the cocktail much more affordable for those that need it the most.
