A group of nationalist Russian lawmakers called Monday for a sweeping investigation aimed at outlawing all Jewish organizations and punishing officials who support them, accusing Jews of fomenting ethnic hatred and saying they provoke anti-Semitism.

Echoing anti-Semitic tracts of the Czarist era, the letter's authors accuse Jews of working against the interests of the countries where they live and of monopolizing power worldwide. They say the United States "has become an instrument for achieving the global aims of Judaism."

"It is possible to say that the entire democratic world today is under the monetary and political control of international Judaism, which high-profile bankers are openly proud of," the letter says.

More than seventy years later, it's the same old song in Russia. They are at war in Chechnya, their metros are being bombed by Chechens, and yet the <a href="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/russia_anti_semitism">dirty Jew is formenting anti-Russian campaign</a>.

Aren't Jews only some 2% of the population of this global Jewish hotbed we call home?

Yep. Just about 13 million people worldwide.

Jews only number 13,000,000? Gosh, I thought there were more than that in the NYC metro area alone! Are you sure that's an accurate figure?

Yep, it's around there... http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/jewpop.html

Also, you feel that way because NYC happens to have more Jews than any other city in the world save for Israel.

Apparently Britain (http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,1397723,00.html) is having it's own problems on the matter.

Meanwhile, back in Russia, they are downplaying the incident. (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050125.wruss0125/BNStory/International/)
The prosecutor-general's office said no investigation would be made because the letter has been retracted. A woman who answered the phone at Mr. Krutov's office said the letter was “withdrawn,” but she refused to comment further.

The Interfax news agency quoted Mr. Krutov as saying that anti-Semitism is “minimal” in Russia.

Also Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the letter had “nothing in common with the official stand of the Russian leadership, which categorically rejects any signs of inter-ethnic strife and xenophobia, including anti-Semitism.”

Yes, and there is no AIDS, crime, or poverty there either.

And there are probobly a few million more with jewish blood who don't know it because their ancestors may have been "converted" under the threat of death, or simply lost interest in religious or historical identities and merely blended in to this population or that.

Many Russian Jews "converted" themselves. Being that SU was a Godless country anyway, you had not much to lose.

Problem, of course, was if you had a Jewish name or "looked Jewish." Deny it all you want...
