This is amazing ...

A giant iceberg the size of Long Island, NY was expected to crash into the Drygalski Ice Tongue in the Ross Sea. It would have been a collision of collossal proportions. However, it appears that the berg got grounded on an underwater shoal and has been stopped 2.5 miles from the ice tongue. Now there has been a huge break-up of sea ice around it.
Watch the mpeg video of satellite observations (http://www.nasa.gov/mpg/105894main_crack_movie.mpg).
And more on this phenomenon from NASA (http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lookingatearth/ice_berg_ram.html)
