NEW PORT RICHEY -- Get out the tinsel and lights, Christmas trees are returning to Pasco County buildings.
Pasco officials revoked a ban on Christmas trees in county buildings Friday, two days after ordering the trees to come down because they were considered religious symbols, said Dan Johnson, assistant county administrator for Public Services.
In a revised decision, the county attorney said that a Christmas tree is a purely secular symbol, along with Santa Claus and candy canes.SOURCE (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-1217pascogrinch,0,5910150.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines)
Hooray for Pasco County!!
(Kristi)Wooden (an assistant county attorney) also said a menorah could be displayed with a Christmas tree if a sign was added to the display reading: ``Salute to Liberty. During this holiday season, the (government entity) salutes liberty. Let these festive lights remind us that we are the keepers of the flame of liberty and our legacy of freedom.''
BDD... :{)
They fear the Snowflakehadeen.

We just had a similar case here in Seattle. The court basically told old Sidney to STFU. I heard this clown on the radio yesterday and he is definitely a whiny little twerp.

I don't understand...they took down the Christmas tree because they thought it was religious, then decided it was secular. But they decided to put a menorah as well, which is clearly religious? I guess I don't get it.
Oh wait, yes I do...expressions of Christianity are wrong, but all others are OK. :)

I want you to know that we here in New Port Richey, where the seat of the County Government has many offices, are a very enlightened bunch.

But Jews will whine about Christmas anyway.

wasn't the menorah more about the Macabean revolt against foreign rulership?

It's religious a symbol.
The Stocks complained after a city worker told them the tree makes him feel out of place, and if he says so, he fears for his job.
He would get more out of assertiveness training classes than making everyone conform to his fears. Why don't they try that for a while and see if it doesn't work? :)

My Christmas wish for Mr. Stock is that one of his colleagues can fix his back problem - the one resulting from his head being so far up his butt! Stock and his wife, who apparently suffers from the same back affliction, marched into Bellevue City Hall this week to complain about the Christmas tree in the lobby.
The Stock's say they're offended by the tree as it has connections to Christmas, a Christian-based holiday don't you know. There was a lot of blah blah blah from the Stocks about being atheists, and how blah blah blah they speak for many, but in the end Bellevue city officials said that, with court decisions on their side, not only does the tree stay, it'll be back again next year!
Way to go Bellevue!!
So, Mr. and Mrs. Stock: Merry Christmas - and I hope those back problems get better real soon.

Yup, sometimes Schram is way off the mark in my opinion and other times he hits it dead on. Either way he speaks his mind and the station allows him to do that. I like it.

No, they should not, I completely agree. What is needed and rather urgently, is a common sense detector for there seems to be those among the general population who lack this critical gene which leads to all manner of confusion. There is a difference between a holiday and a holy day. There are many differences among people through out the county and the world. At the end of a year, we should come together to be thankful of our similarities for living in this country and celebrate the differences that make us unique.
