Why? Because the band is Christian Rock (http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041215/NEWS18/412150341).

Rossford High School officials were considering letting a Christian rock band play during an anti-drug assembly next week, but decided yesterday to cancel the performance because of concerns over having religious music played in a public school.

"We are just shutting the whole thing down," Rossford Superintendent Luci Gernot said. "There is some controversy, and I'd rather err on this side."

The school district's law firm, Whalen & Compton of Akron told school officials yesterday that it "wasn't appropriate" to let the band Pawn perform at the school, Ms. Gernot said.

Ok, repeat after me, the band was going to perform anti-drug message. That band happens to be in the Christian Rock genre. See the connection?

Un-friggin-believable!!!!!!!!!!! Especially given this part:

Students would have had the option of whether or not to attend the band's performance, which was going to be held during school hours.

So, it was optional for students to attend but that still wasn't good enough.

Imagine the horror of Jewish children actually having to interact with Christian children! My God, could that be consider unkosher?! If Muslim children see a Christian child in a public school, does that mean they'll need two extra helpings a halal-sanctioned dessert, and have the word "pork" struck from the American lexicon?

Will Judas Priest albums be banned next?? How about Godsmack?

I'd better destroy my prized vinyl of Iron Butterfly doing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida because it contains a word that sounds like the "G" word...

Rally 'round the Snowflake!!

BDD... :{)

Oh no SM, I think you just hit the next movement that will happen in public schools without even knowing it.

The next thing under attack with be the cafeteria, where they will have to remove all food items that could possible, maybe, kind of, even be construed as offensive to some religion or ethnic group. After all, it is no longer acceptable to just change the channel, so to speak.

Well, if school cafeteria cuisine is as I remember it from the 1970s, that might not be such a bad thing.

Never happen.
That would be considered anti-semitism by those under attack dontcha know..

Governmental subsidized/supplied "certain religous" foods are perfectly fine in our "constitutuonally secular" society.
After all, if we were a truly "secular" (God I am getting sick of that word) society, our Government would not be allowing Kosher foods to be served in public schools, Government cafeterias, the MILITARY, or anywhere else that is paid for with yours and my tax dollars. Not even a friggin Coke during those times that "the search" is in full force would be allowed in any Government building..
It's only Christian related religous items, thoughts, and words that need to be banned from our schools.

As far as the schools ban on this band, I'm not surprised at all, but somehow I doubt they would be equally as forbidding to a group who might sing about drugs, but just happened to "Thank God" during an acceptance speech for a Grammy, or what have you.
