Detroit has a Greektown section that tempts visitors with moussaka and baklava, and a Mexicantown neighborhood with Latin American groceries and restaurants. Now, politicians are pushing for a business district identified with the city's biggest minority group - blacks.
The plan, dubbed "African Town" by some proponents, has stirred fervent opposition, in part because the new district would be established using taxpayer money that would be available only to black business owners.
The population of Detroit is 80% black. Does this plan seem to be a bit redundant to anyone else, or is it just me?

With these demographics, they might as well just change the name of the city. Of course, what's really amusing is that most Africans consider American Blacks enraptured with "African Culture" nothing more than ignorant poseurs.

Redundant. Yep. We're talking 80% here. If they want it, have at it. I've never been to Detroit, I have no idea how welcome non whites are, but if it's anything like South-Central LA, it should be an experience. I'm not black, but I have no compunctions about availing myself of the excellent dining South-Central offers, while taking heed to avoid certain neighborhoods and the projects of course. That could prove fatal, as the gangs and their ilk are some of the most racist people in the Country.

Living near Detroit, I can tell you with some certainty that the vast majority of suburbanites only go to downtown Detroit. It's pretty much the only safe area, at least for whites. Mexicantown and Greektown are relatively close to downtown and moderately safe as well. I would never ever consider going to Detroit unless I had some pressing interest in going. A sporting event or jury duty being the only reason I would consider going there these days. Haven't been to a sporting event in a decade.
What is interesting to me is the rather large hint that Detroit politicians never get. The safe area's of Detroit, while small, account for a huge amount of the money that gets spent in Detroit. Meanwhile the unsafe area's are pretty much ghost towns. Blacks in Detroit, for the most part, come to the suburbs to shop and spend money. Why do you think that is? Because it's safe.
What I find humorous is that the only people that will be hurt by actions like this are Blacks and Arabs.
