Here's a situation that I hope someone can help.
User has all kinds of application. He/She needs sound for many of them EXCEPT IE.
IE has a few audio sounds that will not go away with:
1. Start Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ AppEvents \ Schemes \ Apps\ Explorer \ Navigating\ .current
3. Change the default value to the wav file you want to use.
4. Leaving it blank will turn off the sound.
5. This also changes the default sound when navigating to folders in the Explorer.
The above does eliminate the annoying "click" when changing folders.
But there's still sounds coming from it on certain pages. And yes, I did turn off the audio in the Options/Advance.
Any ideas?

Looking under Sounds and Audio of control panel, can you not delete all sounds except for applications you're interested in?

Open sound properties in control panel. Click on the sounds tab.
In the program events window scroll down to the sound events they don't want. Highlight each one, one at a time, then underneath that it show you which sound is associated with each event. Click on the drop down arrow, then click on 'none'.
that should do it.

What if a specific webpage in IE was generating that sound?

Try clicking stop after the page loads, or install something like Proxomitron which has a few sound settings and allows you to switch web sounds on or off at will.

It's really not for me but for someone who is illiterate in PC's. Otherwise, I wouldn't be asking. All I wanted to do was remove/disable the sound from IE and I thought it was easy. LOL! Amazing how a program like IE would not have an off/on button for sound.

Not really, but the one they showed me is the AOL site where they get their email.
(I told you these are not PC literates)

It's probably some shockwave/flash ad in the page. There's a way to disable it, but it's a reg edit.
Edit - had to go find the explanation of the reg edit, it was in my favorites on my other pc. found here
Then again if they're not sure it might not be flash.
Be on the safe side, take the pc away for them . :)
And it's just occurred to me I can hit escape to stop that damn horse animation. yay!
