Machete-wielding supporters of ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide are turning their wrath on Haiti's demoralized police force, beheading some of their victims in a campaign imitative of the insurgency in Iraq. Three of the slain policemen were decapitated after being shot during clashes with pro-Aristide demonstrators last week."We'll be in the streets until death or Aristide comes back," said Milo Fenelon, 24. "We won't stop. If they come in here, we're going to cut off their heads. It's going to be just like Baghdad."

Some of the demonstrators carried machetes and rocks. At least two had guns -- a rifle and a homemade shotgun. Some wore masks, others covered their faces with T-shirts. A burning tire lit in the middle of a road sent acrid smoke into the air.

"We will fight until the return of Aristide," said Georges Jean, a 33-year-old mechanic. "We can also cut off Latortue's head."

What the heck. UN workers along with the red cross trying to help the people deal with the devastation that occured due to the hurricanes. They are still finding bodies in the mud, people are lost.
And in all of that, now we have heads rolling. Literally. And they are saying it's going to be like Baghdad? What the heck is the matter with these people. And what is the US supposed to be doing about it? I can't wait to hear the yelling and screaming tomorrow from the people down here in Florida and that woman...the rep...what was her name...White? http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/americas/10/05/haiti.ap/index.html

Remember that story with the African American woman who made racial remarks and said white politicians or some crap, didn't respect Haiti? I wonder what she's saying now? This is barbaric.

Haiti has always been that way. It is a country where the poverty is just amazingly shocking, especially considering it's in the Caribbean and surrounded by countries that are tourist hot spots. It is a country ravaged by AIDS and ignorance (not many educated folk), one where politicians make promises to get into office, and then when they get into office, they rape and plunder their own country. Every so often, a group of people will lose their minds and do outrageous things like chop people's heads off, etc.

I'm not shocked by this at all. I grew up in Miami, which has a very large Haitian population, and we'd hear about things like this all the time. Aristide was supposed to be their savior, and he screwed them even more to the point that he had needed protection to get out of the country. Didn't some African country accept him as a refugee or something? Now they want him back. *sigh*

I feel bad for haiti, I really do. Aside from all their normal crap they have to deal with (poverty, starvation, political unrest, AIDS), they've suffered tremendous loss of life in May due to flooding and a few weeks ago due to Jeanne (more flooding) They're desperate and are just reacting like any starving injured animal who's been beaten their whole lives would.

Yes, I think her last name was White or Brown. One or the other. I remember I called her offices and wrote an email. I was soooo pissed.

So what can/should be done? It's horrible. They could have so much...it's a beautiful or could be a beautiful place. It could be a tourist haven. And they bring up they are going to be like Baghdad? This is rediculous. Chopping heads off??
