Neocon quiz
Are you a neoconservative? Take this quiz to find out.
http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/quiz/neoconQuiz.html
We had a quiz many months before, however, with the influx of many more members, it might be fun to revisit.
My results were not surprising.
Based on your answers, you are most likely a neoconservative.
I may be the only one in this forum, so I wait with interest to see if someone else may fall in this catagory.

A proud liberal here. Surprised?
(Although I like the term somebody--dliw?--used in another thread. I think it was "left wing multiculturalist." Yeah--that's me! ;))
Hmmm. I be a realist this time around. Am I growing up? :)

I didn't much care for the answers for question 1 and none of the answers for question 2 match how I feel, so I can't take the quiz. Sorry.....

Realist.
Isolationist
The term isolationist is most often used negatively; few people who share its beliefs use it to describe their own foreign policy perspective. They believe in "America first." For them, national sovereignty trumps international relations. Many unions, libertarians, and anti-globalization protesters share isolationist tenets.
Isolationists…
* Are wary of US involvement in the United Nations
* Oppose international law, alliances, and agreements
* Believe the US should not act as a global cop
* Support trade practices that protect American workers
* Oppose liberal immigration
* Oppose American imperialism
* Desire to preserve what they see as America's national identity and character

Well, I believe in trade with China, diplomacy with Iran, the Iraq war was a failure, etc. I guess that makes me... a liberal? If the shoe fits, I guess.

Of course the quiz is not accurate.
I chose answers that reflect my anger at the world condition and the aftermath of 9/11. Although I often say I am a neo-conservative, my solutions fall far short of the extreme that is often associated with this label. Like Steve, I did not like some of the answers, and often some of the solutions. I think the problem lies more with the definition of neo-con which has such a negative connotation. It seems much more tarnished than the connotation of liberal.
The problem with labels, is that it pidgenholes us into catagories that do not fit. What I found interesting in the quiz was the questions themselves. They may accurately state a problem, but only give four solutions. Seldom are solutions narrowly defined.
A proud liberal here. Surprised?
(Although I like the term somebody--dliw?--used in another thread. I think it was "left wing multiculturalist." Yeah--that's me! ;))That was me my friend. :) The feeling of the syllables rolling off my tongue is exquisite.
Neoconservative
Neoconservatives…
Want the US to be the world's unchallenged superpower
Share unwavering support for Israel
Support American unilateral action
Support preemptive strikes to remove perceived threats to US security
Promote the development of an American empire
Equate American power with the potential for world peace
Seek to democratize the Arab world
Push regime change in states deemed threats to the US or its allies
Historical neoconservative: President Teddy Roosevelt
Modern neoconservative: President Ronald Reagan
Except for this, "Promote the development of an American empire", I agree. Unless of course it is to signify political and economical supremacy in conjunction with "Want the US to be the world's unchallenged superpower ".

I'd say you are liberal in domestic affairs as well. Not sure what you meant when you called yourself a conservative, but I've seen nothing of the kind in your posts.
So you are finally out of the closet! (Again! ;)).

So you are finally out of the closet! (Again! ;)).I had a long conversation with my cousin last night. He is very well traveled and politically active, and he told me that I have changed drastically over the past several years. Now that I think of it, my life has really changed in recent years. I've moved away from my hometown, I have become entirely independent, and I've taken more interest in politics. I used to be a staunch authoritarian. I know it sounds crazy, but I was very different just five years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to call myself pro-life back then, though now (partly thanks to some of the debates in here actually!) it is much more difficult for me to take a strong stance. I think I am with most of this site in saying that I don't like abortion, and I don't like that it is so common, but I really don't like telling people what to do or not to do. However, on social issues outside of the abortion debate, I am definitely liberal.
I know I've come off as being very liberal socially, and I am. I usually post in the debates on social matters because they are more interesting to me. I think if I diverted my attention to some of the other areas of government, you'd find that I can be very conservative too. I do not like that I am forced to pay into social security. If my employer held 12% of my paychecks for my retirement, and did what the government is doing with it right now, they would be thrown in jail. I am equally disgusted with welfare. I know that it helps many get back on their feet, but too many are helping themselves to free money. It encourages women to have children - children that are much more likely to grow up and cost tax payers even more money when they end up in jail. I am against affirmative action as it exists today. Any form of job quota is wrong, whether it's based on race, gender, age or anything else. I am all for people taking personal responsibility for their actions, even if it means suffering due to their own failures.
Am I sounding like a republican yet?
Until recently (a few weeks ago), I was a registered Republican. I am PROUD to say that I am no longer registered to any party and will likely change my status again to Libertarian.
Holy crap, I just thought of something. I actually voted for George Bush in the 2000 election. It's no surprise that I don't like him very much now, but that should give you an idea of how much I've changed. I feel very threatened lately by republicans. I still don't like a lot of the democrats' ideas, but they are mostly fiscal matters which threaten only my wallet. Don't get me wrong - I love my wallet! But I love my personal freedoms even more, so I've found myself slowly drifting from the republican party. Not necessarily toward the democratic party, but definitely away from the republican party.
Okay, now on to religion. LOL...just kidding.

Actually, I think you've matured in to an entity that can not be piegeonholed. I guess that's the best compliment I can give anyone.

Congratulations, Rred! You've made a move in the right direction. You know what? You're the thin edge of the wedge--the beginning of the trend. The era of Republicans will soon be seen as something like the Cretaceous era.
To the rest of you Republicans out there...Resistance is futile! You must comply! <img src="http://socrates.bmcc.cuny.edu/jugoretz/borg.gif">
Looks like you've got another Liberal in the bunch. I'm not surprised though, I never considered myself anywhere near being Neo-conservative.

Realist. I would prefer something more dynamic and exiting, but I'll take it.
I did not take the test but I classify myself as a mixture of neocon and paleocon. I support our work with Israel and the war with Iraq but oppose Bush's amnesty for illegals and oppose anytype of wellfare state.
