View Full Version : Next Up, Tom Brokaw
Brokaw has stepped up to the plate (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=496&u=/ap/20041002/ap_on_en_tv/rather_anchors_2&printer=1) on behalf of Danny boy and left a floater in the pool.
NEW YORK - While acknowledging mistakes in CBS anchor Dan Rather's "60 Minutes" report that questioned President Bush (news - web sites)'s service in the National Guard, competing news anchors Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings offered support Saturday for the beleaguered newsman.
Brokaw blasted what he called an attempt to "demonize" CBS and Rather on the Internet, where complaints about the report first surfaced. He said the criticism "goes well beyond any factual information."
"What I think is highly inappropriate is what going on across the Internet, a kind of political jihad ... that is quite outrageous," the NBC anchor said at a panel on which all three men spoke.
I guess forged documents and a history of bias fails to meet ol' Tom's standards. :haha:

Of course, making a statement like that, do you think any of them came up with any specific examples? Integrity in journalism, how ridiculous of anyone to expect.
Its so funny how scared they are of bloggers. As if no one would be criticizing them in their own homes. There are sooo many 'journalists' and reporters speaking out against the bloggers and the "internet". Scares the crap out 'em.
Personally I think they are just jealous because bloggers don't have a boss they have to answer to. If they screw up, no one reads them, end of story. No income lost, just...pffft. Now they are saying that the bloggers are being bought by the advertisers. Pressured into covering certain things and presenting it in a certain way.

This is akin to one particular email I got... Having received a completely unsolicited spam email from a well known seemingly reputable company (Sony) linking to their real web site and advertising their real products, I immediately sent a response that I didn't appreciate their spam, and would use the fact that they were participating in it in making my decisions to NOT purchase their products in the future.
Then a week or so later, I received another email from an attorney, advising that they were aware of my efforts to harm the company, and that I was one of the suspects in the hacking of their web sites and DDoS attacks on Sony servers, and to cease and desist this activity.
It was the most pathetic shotgun approach by the most internet illiterate company suits that I have ever seen. I thought it was completely hilarious, and informed the attorney's office that to make such an accusation was to subject themselves to risk of civil liability, and that I'd be interested in seeing the evidence they thought they had against me.
I'm offering this comparison because it's evident to me that we have a similar situation in the MSM. They are so comfortable in their ivory towers that they are really miffed that they're being brought to task by a bunch of regular Joes. They are imploding by pointing fingers at the internet, and inviting more and more critique. They just don't get the concept of an uncontrolled medium, because until now, they've always controlled information. No mas!

U.S.S. Rather was sinking alone, now it has a few more passengers it will take with them.

OMG, he compared bloggers to Jihadists! LMAO!
"What I think is highly inappropriate is what going on across the Internet, a kind of political jihad ... that is quite outrageous,"
I think Cyd nailed it, this is coming from fear and has NOTHING to do with left or right leanings. The Bloggers are from both sides of the political spectrum and they (sadly) are doing more research and checking facts than these News Dinosaurs.
rofl That actually happened to you? Holy crapola!

God bless the internet.
Really.
I mean it.
The freedom with which information flows today compared to only 20 years ago is amazing. And we are only in the infancy of this mode of gathering information.
Society has changed forever. Anchormen are soon to be going the way of the buggy-whip and the livery stable. Sure - there will still be a few around, but they will merely be for nostalgia's sake, and no one will take them too seriously,

Yes it did, lol, and on some newsgroups, I found that the pattern had been repeated many times over. So the lawyers had simply threat-spammed all those who had protested the original spam.
Needless to say, the lawyer's servers were immediately hacked and DDoS attacked and they were inundated with phone calls to their offices from hundreds and hundreds of people, and God knows what else. I doubt the police were very sympathetic.
