I contacted them a couple months back to see if they would sell it via NFA, but the lady indicated no. I am still going to write a letter to Ronnie Barrett about this asking him to sell them to civilians.

One of them sure would be nice for hunting. Hunting deer would probably not be best if you wanted the meat from it. But for bear, it would be perfect.

Barrett does make some awesome weapons, to be sure. Still, US Army SF prefer smaller gauge firearms as sniper weapons. I fired one once on the range, and the backblast almost killed me. :) They do use 'em to detonate mines, though.

--bold by me--
"I" know you're joking, but some folks may not? ;)
Over the last few decades, I've sometimes ruined more deer meat than necessary by misplacing a shot, by just a few inches, with my little .270.
If you're hunting for meat for the table, you soon understand what happens to a roast when you put a bullet thru it.
(NO ONE I know hunts deer with a military type .50, or anything like it. It'd be WAY too distructive!)
I know that YOU know, I just don't know that everyone else does.
But, I WOULD like to see what I could do with this beast on the 1000yd range! ;)

I remember watching some Seals fire an M82 at Camp Pendleton back in '93. It was impressive, to say the least.
Personally, the only .50 calibers I've fired are the good ol' M2 machine gun, and a Desert Eagle (piece of garbage). I think that'll be good enough for me. (Althought that S&W .500 is intriguing)

Yeah, we hung slightly modded M2s off the sides of some of our a/c. Great weapons, but the full cyclic rate is a little on the low side for aviation...if you come in at more than 60 knots or so, the spacing gets a little wide.

Was listening to them talk about the S&W .500 on the radio the other day. They were saying it is almost 5 lbs fully loaded and make sure there is nothing flamable around you when you fire, especially if you have the short barrell.
We are talking about the pistol, right?

Uh huh.. I had the pleasure of firing one a couple of weeks ago. Not very many ranges allow .50 cal ammo, so we had to go out to his ranch.
It's a heavy beast, and his even had a sling on it. Amazingly enough, the recoil wasn't as bad as I expected. But it definitely isn't something you can conceal easily.

Yeah, I was.
But, based on the info you just presented, I'll probably just pass on it altogether.
Think I'll stick with my M1911-A1 and my .357.

Especially when you've had training in the Mozambique Drill using one ;)
(spent 3 days or more learning that while in the military...got real good at it)
For those that don't know what I'm talking about, the drill consists of quickly firing two rounds to the chest, and if the enemy doesn't drop, putting one in the head.

I feel naked without my issue M1911A1 within arms reach, Mr dliw. I consider it my third arm. No, make that 4th arm.
