Domh, how is the D70 compare with Canon's 10D?

DO IT!

 Do you mean one Nikon digital body will let me use my non-AIS, non-Auto-Focus Nikon/Nikkor and Nikon-mount Vivitar lenses from a generation ago? And still have accurate light-metering and stopping-down during exposure, while viewing the scene with the lens wide-open, just like on my trusted F and FE2?

I suspect the answer is yes, but you seem to know more about this than I do, so I thought I'd check with you first.

What about exposure-length control, is it still the same as it is with film SLRs?

Sorry for asking so many dumb questions. I've been intrigured with digital photography for a while but remained loyal to film and the chemical process. I can see how much more straightforward it is to control an electronic process rather than chemistry. If the above means that I don't have to give up or forget everything I've learned about composition, exposure and optics with my trusted Nikon lenses, I might make the switch...

Thanks in advance.

Except this month Fuji has just released details on their S3 Pro (http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/proPhotoProductS3.jsp) digital with 12.3 megapixals resolution using Nikon lenses. pricey, yes at an estimated $3,000 for the body, but sure to come down next year when Canon and Pentax try to match it.

Yes Rav, both of these cameras let you use all Nikon lenses.

You can use all your old Nikon lenses, some will require an adapter depending on the mount.

Exposure length control is the same or better than slightly older film SLRs. My Canon DigiReb goes 1/4000 to 30 seconds and then has a setting where the shutter is open as long as its depressed - nice to have a cable release for that, but even at ISO100 I dont do it much, noise from sensor over 30 seconds gets noticeable.

Leon - the 2 cameras arent comparable. The only camera the Nikon D70 is better than, and thats ONLY for somebody with no gear or with a set of Nikon Lenses they want to use, is the Digital Rebel. If you are going to drop ANY more money than this, you get a huge increase in quality and shootability going to the 10D, but the 20D is out now too - bout the same price. Thats the one to look at.

Check them all out at http://www.dpreview.com - thats the place for info, and probably the best digital photo forum on the web.

The overall impression now that the D70 has been out for awhile is that its sensor just isnt as good as the Canon, and from the comparisons I definitely agree.

Rav - if you can afford it and like to shoot, RUN dont walk to get a Digital SLR. It reinvigorates the art in a way you never thought possible. Youll still use that film camera for some situations, for sure - but in about 80% of shooting situations, theres no comparison. Digital simply kicks the shit out of film across the board.

Cool, thanks for the update. Guess I will wait a few years. My trusty G2 is still taking decent shots for what I need.
