No, it's not the right of Nazis to march. It's our privacy. Nice web presentation of what could be the worst case scenario (at least I hope it's the worst case):

Doh! I looked through here and didn't see it. Now I see that Joe got such a kick out of it he put it in Rick's Place. Sorry!

Hey, let me add something that makes it a "separate" thread for you and deserving of this forum and not "Ricks."l
This is a good example of the ACLU scumbag propaganda. What at first glance sounds and looks terrific upon closer inspection and thought shows it for what it really is.
Here is the ACLU text to the very well done educational and entertaining audio.
"The government and corporations are aggressively collecting information about your personal life and your habits. They want to track your purchases, your medical records, and even your relationships. The Bush Administration's policies, coupled with invasive new technologies, could eliminate your right to privacy completely. Please help us protect our privacy rights and prevent the Total Surveillance Society."
What's the problem you say?
Everything with one or two exceptions such as what was checked out of the library is and has been available for decades and all by private organizations and any person who wants to purchase it.
Ah, but the way the ACLU propaganda, [Shut up ethics! ;) ], words it you would think that most of this is on the horizon and the government and specifically the Bush administration are behind it or are the threat.
Switch and bait! Complete willful dishonesty.

What might be different from decades ago is the instantaneous access to lots of this data, the consolidation of it from disparate stovepipe systems, and the potential for erosion of rights via the Patriot Act and whatever else is coming down the pike.
I'm not ready to reach a definitive conclusion one way of the other, but it certainly pleases me to see the ACLU working in this area rather than Nazi parades. :)

Brian,
I was accessing much of this stuff in the mid-eighties via computer. Hell, I taught TRW how to do things they were sure they "couldn't do!" The main difference today is:
1. The sources for all the stuff mentioned in "commericial" is now more centralized as far as single sources for anything you want while being cheaper to get.
2. The database is more comphrensive, definitely--but not as much as you might suspect.
3. Regards the Patriot Act it doesn't even cover most of the stuff spoken of in the commercial and besides why should it since it already available to anyone who wants it. And whats more it is available legally and COVERTLY in that you don't know they have it or are "scoping" you out!
I won't blow smoke up your rear and say that we don't need to keep our eyes and ears open regarding the government and our rights but in the real world the threat is the private sector. No contest. EVERYTHING about you is now legally available in the private sector and at one shop stops!
Heck, give me just a person's social security number and nothing else--not even their name and I will within one week tell you ALL about them without once directly using any government source.
