Speaking of movies... This (http://starwars.com/) comes out tuesday, I believe. Can't wait. I have the old ones. The new ones have been "adjusted."

I loved them when I was a kid. I am not sure when SW started losing its luster. Perhaps it's me?

In 1998 Lucas re-released into the major theater chains one month apart in order, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The re-release was a tremendous smash success. See the films in their full glory on the widscreen with THX sound and some additional footage was awsome.

The films were just as good nearly twenty years afte they were made.

The original Star Wars is unique. It is the only movie to my knowledge that when it was released was so revolutionary that you had to see it to appreciate it because there had never been a single movie ever made prior to 1977 when Star Wars was released that had anything in it like what was in Star Wars in terms of technology and special effects. You couldn't describe the movie to somone becaues there was nothing you could adequately compare it to for their reference. Even today no other movie can make that claim. It is unique. It didn't hurt that the screenplay was excellent and the acting outstanding by a then unknown cast with the exeption of Alec Guiness.

Here is a link to a trailer for "The Empire Strikes Back" just for your entertainment.

I remember later when Empire Strikes Back came out my would-be stepdaughter (then 3) said, "It's like anchors away to my tummy! "

I love the original three movies. The others, well, are good on their own, but really bad as Star Wars movies. Special effects are not a movie make.

"The Empire Strikes Back" is still the best entry.

On the Wednesday that "Star Wars" opened I took the bus (didn't own a car) to the Uptown Theater on Connecticut Avenue in D.C. The 10:00 PM show was sold out so they hastily scheduled a midnight show that I waited in line to see. If memory serves correctly they started with a limited release (believe it or not) in New York, D.C., and L.A. so I immediately called my friends in Philly and said "You have to come down here to see this movie." You're right, Mentat, I really couldn't describe it - all I could say was "Trust me - get down here to see this movie." :)

I saw the first movie in a Japanese movie theater, in Japan, with Japanese subtitles. Completely blown away!

Just snagged mine from Amazon...

$41 and change... free shipping.

What kills me is the "new and used" selections on Amazon for the same set, starting @ $50

I bought the classic trilogy DVDs when the day they came out. I still can't believe they were made almost 30 years ago even though they have been cleaned up. The Empire Strikes Back and a New Hope were probably tied as being the best in the series in my opinion. I still remember watching Empire in a theater in Montreal when I was six and everyone was gasping in shock when Vader revealed who he was.

Did anybody assume that it was his dad?

Heh, back then no internet or chat boards to glean rumors from. :)

I was completely astounded when I found that out. No clue. No guess.

I saw the first movie in a big theatre in Mission Valley, San Diego. Waited in line with my friends for about an hour to get in, and when the movie was over, stayed right in my seat and watched the whole thing again. Only time I've ever done that. It felt like someone had reached right into my dreams and imagination and made a movie.

Return of the Jedi is still my favorite movie. I love the huge space battle so much the whole movie should have been just that. That is why I love the Rogue Squadron video games.
