If you get a chance, David, please watch Stalin: The Man of Steel on the History Channel. One of the best profiles (it's 2 hours long) of the man. My parents, who thought they knew everything about the man, were appalled, angered, and depressed after watching it for the first time.
The best part is that History Channel did their homework because it matches the best depictions (written) by historians like Beevor.
