View Full Version : Definitely Not Hanoi Jane
Also not as bubble headed as I have believed over the years. Not much more to say about this other than here's Cher calling in to C-Span. (http://nornsisland.com/Cher_calls_C-SPAN.mp3) Note that she isn't simply railing as many of the celeb mouthpieces do, but she is actually engaging in the national debate.

Damn....I always loved Cher. She's down to earth no matter what the sitch is.
This thing she speaks of with the lack of armor on these humvees...wtf is with that? Is the armed forces too cheap to spend the money on the armor or something? Such a f*cking waste!!!

This thing she speaks of with the lack of armor on these humvees...wtf is with that? Is the armed forces too cheap to spend the money on the armor or something? Such a f*cking waste!!! The humvee was never intended to be an armored vehicle. It is a transport vehicle, and the skin of the vehicle is just like a humvee you would buy in a dealership. It was intended to replace two vehicles in the military inventory, the Jeep, which was pure light transport, and the Gamma Goat, which was an amphibious troop transport / tow vehicle. It had to be fast, cheap and efficient, and airborne capable. For armor, the military looks to the Bradley and the Abrams.
It's unfortunate what happened to these troops, and I'd never downplay the horror of their stories. But there is no fault to be placed on the military for the lack of armor on the humvee. The fault is in asking our troops to be police.
As for her clip, I appreciate her compassion, and no, she is definitely not Hanoi Jane. This is an American whose concern is properly focused.
Yep, humvees aren't armored, but the guys are starting to do some of that themselves and I believe I was reading about a company that is sending a test product to Iraq. It's a peel and stick armor...very thin that shows a lot of promise.
I guess what struck me most about this clip is that Cher was trying to play down and not really wanting to divulge her identity at first. Dunno if I agree with her politics, I haven't heard enough (and I don't really think the airwaves particularly should be cluttered with it), but she was attempting to engage the national debate by being informed, caring and involved. There were no histrionics, no bashing and no agenda pimping going on. That I can respect.
Also not as bubble headed as I have believed over the years.
No, definitely not a bubble head. Never has been. One of the most "genuine" of celebrities you would ever like to speak with--very introspective. Also, I suspect she was mellowed or rounded in some of her political views by Sonny's involvement in politics. She did not agree with him politically on most things but through him she came to know or see the personal side of what was previously viewed by her as the political enemy. It is my impression his death also was a factor there as she and Sonny's wife were/are close. She, Mary Bono, of course took over for him after his death. Plus, despite her looks Cher is in her mid or late fifties now and many people learn to mellow out as they age and in some cases even acquire or enhance their wisdom.
Cher is, and always has been, a VERY smart cookie.
I cant bloody stand her music, but I do like HER alot.
She also has the best facial reconstruction work of anybody Ive ever seen. She is 58 years old! Lips, nose and peels. She looks awesome for her age.
