CNN reviewed a draft copy of a survey conducted by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The survey, scheduled to be released February 27, found that children made more than 11,000 allegations of sexual abuse by priests. The 4,450 accused priests represent about 4 percent of the 110,000 priests who served during the 52 years covered by the study. The survey covers the time period between 1950 and 2002.
More than half of the accused priests had only one allegation against them. Nearly 25 percent, or 1,112 priests, had two or three allegations, and almost 13 percent, or 578 priests, had four to nine allegations, according to the draft report. Nearly 3 percent, or 133 of the priests, had 10 or more allegations.
The report said that 6,700 of the 11,000 allegations were investigated and substantiated, and another 1,000 were unsubstantiated. The remaining 3,300 were not investigated because the priests involved had died by the time the allegation was made.
According to the survey, 78 percent of those abused were between 11 and 17, 16 percent were 8 to 10, and nearly 6 percent were 7 or younger.

The last time I spoke up about the RC church not acting against these priests I was called a member of the KKK. Before that I was accused of jumping on a bandwagon that was unfairly targeting priests and religion. I guess there 6700 out there who don't agree with those charges.
One of the major reasons I abhor organized religion. :vmad:
You are far from alone.
I cant help but think that an entire generation that is growing up right now, while past generations disclose the abuse they suffered, is going to vehemently reject Judeo/Christian organized religion.
They may embrace the bible and its teachings, but I think they will be doing it on their own time and in a private manner.
I may be wrong, but it sorta stands to reason.
Its INEXCUSABLE... what the church has allowed to go on under its very nose. They KNEW... and did NOTHING - in MANY instances.

Doesn't it say something about the children rebelling in revelations? I think you are right.

11,000 allegations of sexual abuse... and I wonder how many others that were never reported? Or how many little girls and boys have been molested by nuns? We never hear about that in the news.
I have thought for a long time that priests and nuns molesting kids would not happen as often if the Catholic Church did not has rules that priests and nuns must remain celibate. I am sure molestations would happen anyway, but not in such large numbers (4%+ is kind of high for one profession). I have to wonder what is wrong with someone who would choose to remain celibate.

Yup, and for 2000 years, nearly every generation has had people who 'see' the end times coming true as foretold in the book of revelations.
