I'm sorry. I'm so disgusted. Last week they had a whole thing in our local paper Newsday about Rabbi's and now again with the priests/bishops.
They had to make a deal with this guy to fess up. Gets to stay working for pete's sakes. I haven't figured out yet who is worse...the perps or the enablers, but I am swiftly coming to the conclusion they are on the same level. And just what is $50k supposed to cover? How awful this dishonest pig in crap gets to stay part of the church at all. Where is the justice. grrrrrrrrr.
conscience is clear unless you deal (http://www.kmsb.com/az/KMSB_az_abuse_030203.7d4ae284.html)
Today's revelations are the latest development in a massive investigation launched by Romley in May 2002. Since then, O'Brien has repeatedly denied a cover-up, saying in January 2003 that his conscience was clear. Romley said O'Brien acknowledged that he allowed priests to continue having conduct with minors after becoming aware of sexual misconduct allegations against them. Also, that priests accused of sexual misconduct were transferred without full disclosure of the allegations against them. In return, Romley said O'Brien will receive immunity from prosecution for his role in the cover-up, as well as for not reporting abuse by priests under his supervision. He could, however, face prosecution if he is directly accused of sexual misconduct.
I know this has been going on for a while and we don't have to talk about it, but damn if it doesn't piss me off that these people are alive.
