I was wondering if anyone here shared the passion of collecting currency and coins. I find all the different designs, the stories they tell, the history behind it all fascinating. I happen to have every country except for say Bosnia, Macedonia, and Belarus when it comes to coins. I have paper money from many countries. I have some old French speeches for Pierre Trudeau, and a campaign pamphlet for John Diefenbaker, so I don't only collect money. History is a fascinating subject, but there is no forum here to talk about collecting things, history and its interpretation etc......

I have coins and bills from every country I've ever physically visited, plus I casually collect old U.S. coins found in pocket change.

Stevent, you know on e-bay you can sometimes get these lots of paper money and have many countries you have not visited in uncirculated condition. It helped me get many countries including Belarus, Croatia, British military money...
I also bid on WWII German, old 5 dollar bills, old Canadian, Iraqi and Kuwaiti money and from various parts of Europe. I do have lots of coins. I have these two big albums that have coins of the world in a closed envelope where you can see the coin and a stamp from that country on the outside, it is part of the collection of coins of the world. You can't get all the places in the world, simply by visiting, it would cost more that way:) But I did like when I was on a trip to Egypt to get stuff at the bizarre there.
I collect bi-centennial quarters, (over $100 worth), $2 bills, and any other U.S. paper Currency older than 1976.
My pride and joy is at least having one each of all of the 1950 series bills. Series A, B, C, D, and E.
Also I have a 1929 series A Gold Certificate $100 bill

M1, when did you get that 100 dollar Gold Certificate?
It must have cost you a pretty penny. I have some 5 dollar silver certificates and this great 5 dollar bill (1943) printed by a Bank in Cleveland. I share your interest in the 2 dollar bills, but haven't really started collecting them mostly have been getting those
5, 10, and 1 dollar bills. I think I have one of the bi-centennial quarters made with silver... Have you got one of those 24 carat gold quarters that come out not too long ago. I eventually want to get one of them.
About 12 years ago, I used to deliver lumber and building supplies.
I took a load of sheetrock and other various products to a house that was owned by Orthodox Jews from Syria,(Thats what he told me, at least) and the man paid me in CASH, all $100's. ($3800 total!) Most, if not all were older than 1960's....
But one of them was said $100, I could not believe my eyes, and it was VERY hard for me not to say anything until I got back into the cab of the truck.
My next stop on the way back to the yard was to my bank and I withdrew a $100 and turned THAT one in. (SCORE! )
Unfortunately, that was all I could afford to swap at the time, and I let some other very old, and probably rare series $100's go right into the banking system again, and no doubtedly right into the "destroy" pile.
